Deep Tissue massage is a therapeutic massage that focuses a slower, more directed stroke intended to access deeper tissues in the body. Working in specific muscle and fascia planes to augment circulation and re-hydrate tissues, reduce muscle tension or spasticity. Stretching and joint movement return muscles to normal resting length and function. Adjusted to the individuals sensitivity, this modality can be very effective in resolving many different issues a person has been suffering from.
The following conditions would benefit from one or more sessions of deep tissue;
* chronic pain from pathological conditions,
* Acute or chronic injuries,
* Repetitive motion
* TMJ dysfunction
* severe pain from muscle spasms, ischemia (lack of blood), or fatigue
* stiffness from immobility connective tissue adhesion
In addition to Deep Tissue, there are several applications of various massage techniques that are integrated into a session to provide the best optimal outcome.
Orthopedic Massage- Is based upon the Hendrickson Method ®, which recognizes that muscle tissue may develop a positional dysfunction that interferes with mechanical movement of the body. Application of specific wavelike strokes to affected areas, with a focus on the realigning of tissue to return to a more functional positioning.
Incorporating muscle energy technique to facilitate neurological integration.
Neuromuscular Therapy - Applies specific pressure on trigger points to relieve chronic pain. These points can exhibit local tenderness and a possible twitch response. Usually felt as little "peas", in the connective tissue, underneath the skin. Normally associated with a "satellite" of pain surrounding the area. Trigger points can also refer sensations of tingling, shooting pain or even numbness to distant locations through a signal returning incorrectly from the brain.
Shiatsu Acupressure- The incorporation of the theory of Eastern medicine that is based upon the energy meridians that are mapped throughout the body which relate to pairs of corresponding organ systems. Based on the concepts of Yin-Yang, hot-cold, interior-exterior. The digital manipulation of these points redistributes "energy flow" within the body to restore balance to these aspects. Included in this discipline are the therapies of Moxibustion and Cupping.
There are complimentary therapies that can be applied, such as; food or herbal remedies, Tai Chi or Chi Gong.
Swedish Massage- A light, circulatory massage that is used for relaxation, lymphatic drainage, lotion application, and connecting other modalities for better flow of the massage. Swedish addresses the movement of interstitial fluid, edema, and cellular waste products to be incorporated into the lymphatic system. In doing so this encourages the opening of capillary beds to restore oxygenation to various parts of the body. Swedish Massage is used for relaxation to improve mental integration.
Polarity Therapy- combination of Western and Eastern medicine disciplines that works with the energy flow throughout and around the body. Polarity Therapy uses three types of touch:
deep massage, a light touch, or an energetic touch, where the hands are placed slightly away from the body.
